Met with Architect to look at plans. He showed us
Schemes 1-3. Although we liked all the plans, no one plan
represented the design we were looking for, so we asked him to go back to
the drawing board to incorporate some of the various elements into one
plan.
From Scheme 1, we liked the layout. The placement of the kitchen
maximizes Eastern light, but the kitchen encroached too far on the
existing driveway (meaning we would lose our only vegetable gardening
section. So we asked him to push the kitchen to the east and widen
it a little.
Of the half bath choices, we liked the one from Scheme 2 b/c it kept
people out of the office while still offering privacy b/c of its location
behind a wall and closet. |

Mom suggested making the guest bedroom addition into a
master bedroom. Great idea b/c better light and different
configuration of the space. |

OK, I looked at the Dec. 6 revision.
Looks great. What is the little closet off of the LR/Den
for???? Also, one thing to consider. Make sure your
electrician runs a middle -of- the- room -ceiling wiring box in the den
and the DR. Let me tell you why. As I study the plans,
the current den would also make a great DR if you ever wanted to change
the rooms out and flip flop your den and DR as they currently stand.
A lot of people do that and flip flop their DR with the LR or den to get a
larger DR. The biggest expense when they do that is rewiring
the room to get a nice ceiling fixture in the center that will hang down
over the table. So have your electrician do that ahead of time,
(won't cost anything extra as long as he is running wires everywhere) and
then you and Bill will have that problem nipped in the bud if you ever
want to change and get a DR that is a little bit bigger. Both
current rooms have access to the kitchen and LR, which makes it a perfect
option later in life in you so choose.
What happened to the wonderful idea of fireplace in the master????? :(
I wanted y'all to have that. I thought the extra space that
juts off the master was going to be the closet and the FP area was going
to be a small sitting area with a couple of club chairs, ottoman,
etc. Did we lose that in the negotiations?????

I have been thinking about a few details that would be
nice. One thing we really want is a hose on the driveway side of the
house so that we can water plants. This is a must.
I also thought that another nice feature would be light switches that
are connected to exterior outlets. If we have outdoor lighting, we
can turn it on and off from the inside.
Timers on some of the lights in the house would also be nice. So that
we could program a porch light to come on and go off at a certain time, as
well as an interior light, so that you never come home to a dark house.
Will we need any plugs in the floor? I don't think it will be
logical to add them in existing space, would we need them in the den??
Outdoor lighting will be important. |
